The Green Team Drama Group

As I walked into the the ilminster intermediate hall, I thought that I might one day be nervous to perform to a group of kids some day to. My class and I sat down and waited  patiently and anxiously for the arrival of the first person of the Green Team. Someone came onto the stage looking like a grandmother crawfish? Now, you might be wondering what the heck! So i'll give you the only hint we got. Our teacher said that the play would be based on how we can help our earth environmentally.

As the ball got rolling the back story started to unravel. It started off with the krafish that was called Nany Coda. Nanny had mukopono that she was telling a story to. Her mokopuna loved hearing all of their Grandmothers stories. The storys were all about the times she tried to teach the tamariki and kaitiaki of earth about why Nanny Coda needed them to look after not only Nanny's home, but earth in the whole.

In this story the're some kids that loved playing at the skatepark, but they didn't understand that by littering they were hurting the planet and themselves. Out of nowhere there were aliens that wanted to dump ALL of there rubbish into the skaters pool. When the kids found out that there beloved skatepark was going to turn in to a dumping ground, they new that Nanny Coda would know how to fix there problems.  After lots of bowing, (because the aliens thought that Nanny was the king), they all helped and came to the conclusion that everyone should do there bit.

I think that when I go to ilminster I want to be in the Green team, because it had such an impactful experience on me, that I want to share that with others and give them that feeling of everyone and everything counts. Even the small things.

My New Goal!

Hello, so today i'm going to show you one of the skills I learned to day in L3 Math. At first I found it so diercilt, and did not understand at all, but Koka Charlotte expanded it to me again, so that was very helpful. The goal I was doing is called, solve an algebraic question like: If $ # @ ^ $# @ what is 39th? Here's a question that I will show to you, so that I can say that I know how to solve a question like that.

Going for Green Gold!

So if you've read some of my other blogs you would know that as a school we are going for Green Gold. If you haven't, well I can tell you about it. For about 7 years my school has been working to be awarded the great honour of being a Green Gold School! First of all there's bronze, then silver and last but definitely not the least, GREEN GOLD. The way to accomplish that goal is to follow the guiding principles to be Kaitiaki.

The guiding principles are, Learning for sustainability, Respect for the diversity of people and cultures, Empowered students, Sustainable communities and Maori perspectives. If you know what these mean and how to use them in everyday life, well then you mostly have that award under your belt. So what I'm going to do is try to explain what all of them mean and how we incorporate them at my school.

Learning for sustainability means learning how to make a stable and lush communities for the native flora and fauna to live in. At my school we have a lady called Kauri that comes in to show us how to improve our  gardens and life. Respect for diversity of people and cultures means understanding and being ok with things that can be different or new. In my class we like to be ourselves and show how we would think or do things.  Empowered students means taking matters into our own hands, while getting supported with what you choose to do and how you do that. An example of this for ME would be that I've made my own kawakawa balm out of our school leaves and students brought in old containers to put it in. Sustainable communities means that the community is healthy with bird-life and flora. How we do this at our school is  we go down to Hamanatua stream, and our whanau comes to help out. Maori perspectives means watching and learning how Maori used to do things and how they used to live off the land.

If you ask me, I think I did a pretty good job. Thank goodness for that, because yesterday we were awarded the GREEN GOLD AWARD.

L3 Math

Kia ora, this week my math group and I have been learning a new goal. Our goal is called, Solve a fraction of a whole number question, like 5/8th of 24. At first I found it extraordinary hard, but wanted to figure it out. Our teacher likes to hear how WE figured it out, and if we disagree or agree. She also likes to hear why and how we solved a question. One of my classmates used division, and I used timetables. Any way I thought I might make a video on how I would solve a question.

So my question is 4/8 of 50.

When I looked at the number, I immediately new that 1/2 of 8 is 4 .

So that means that 1/2 of 50 is 25.

Which means that 4/8ths of 50 is 50

Please tell me how you would have done it and if I got it correct or wrong.

Margos Story

Hello this week I thought I would publish my draft for Margos book. I have written all about her and the bundles of blues jonny. I hope you enjoy.

It started out just like any normal day. Margo woke up, had her breakfast, went to work , and then came home to go to sleep just before the cold frosty gisborne night settled in, but what she didn't know was that 2 little blue penguins were wadding up the bank of her house. They were getting ready to fluff up their feathers and settle in for the night. Poor margo was in the middle of her beauty sleep, and the little blues liked to talk about their day.(''REALLY LOUDLY,'') Margo added!

Margo felt very honored that the penguins chose her house, but she couldn't stand all of the late night gosip under the floor joust. So Margo thought up a canning plan. She said to herself, what if I drop the penguins at Mahia. It's far away,... and a nice environment. Margo told her husband, and he was all for it, cause he had also been woken up by all of there fish stories. The next day was moving day...

Margos husband wanted to wear soccer gloves, because he had read that penguins BIT! Once the two bundles of blue were in the black container, they were headed for Mahia. The ride was long, because it was very loud, margo husband said.  They all arrived at the beach, and said goodbye to the penguins. Margo was really relieved that she would finally finish her beauty sleep but still a bit sad, because the beast was know longer full. The nights and days past. Almost a month past, but then.....

Margo and her husband  thought that they were going crazy or something, because they thought they heard the little blues penguins discussing the journey back home from Mahia! The only problem was  the blues nest under the floor jost was now sleid up, so the penguins keeped and keeped on tapping on the window, to try see if Margo, or her husband would let them under the floor gout. Margo didn't come. So they tried and tried  to get to their nest. After a lot of skwuking and pushing they finally made it under. Now they come and go from the floor gout, to the sea.

My 6 Sentence Story

Hello, this week I was scrolling down all of the quick writes I could do, and I found a title that said, (6 Sentence Story, and in a blink of my eye , I had already started.) You might be asking yourself, what's a 6 Sentence Story? Well basically it's what it sounds like. You can only write 6 sentence, but you need to make sure you don't overuse commerce and things like that. Now, in my writing workshop, we had already done one of these because our teachers were wanting us to try use a broda and more meaningful rage of vocabulary. So here's My Six Sentence Story, and make sure to try one yourself!

The Yummy Cheesecake!

Kia ora, this week I did one of my favorite recipes. You might ask, why? Well because of covid, we have to work at home, and one of my AMAZING teachers made a hole slide with all these cool quick writes we can do. This week I choose to make my favorite dish, and I writ all of the ingredients down, and with the instruction as well. By the way, it tasted so good, and all of my family agreed! Because it was sooo dreamy, I thought, why not share it as a blog. That way other people can do it as well, but I have to admit, it was a bit hard. Good luck, and I hope you try it at home as well..

Lockdown!

Lockdown!

Hello, last week Tuesday, the whole country went into lockdown, (level 4!)  At First I was really disheartened, because me and my friends were going to do a bake sale, and also I was going to perform the the bandquest with a couple of friends. So I was down. The only up side I could think of was, no school for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!

Day 1

The first day of lockdown started slow but steady, or you could say BORING! Dad had said no tv or screens until the afternoon.  So, that was a deal breaker.  Although... Dad had driven to go get my brother from boarding school, in Auckland. Which meant only one thing... Drive mum nuts, and then watch tv. My plan worked in about twenty minutes, and I also drove Isaac, (my brother)  nuts as well. So I look at that and say a job well done! You might think, how is she staying fit?

Day 2

In the morning, I decided  I wanted to strengthen my thighs, upper arms and core, so that's what I did.  It was physically hard, and mentally hard. The Thigh workouts I do are called, Focus on Inner Thigh, Tone and Tighten. The other workout is called, 10Minit Inner and outer thigh work out.  Later that day I made my lavender candles, and picked lavender off the side of my driveway, to dry so them so I can make lavender pouches.

Day 3

I woke up, did my workouts, and went on on demand, to try find an at home learning program, but I didn't succeed, so read a bit of my AMAZING cupcake book! I think the recipe that tickled my fancy the most was peanut butter and banana cupcakes. In the late hours of the afternoon, I made cheese and spinach savory muffins, PS they're amazing as well!

Surprise!

Surprise!

Kia ora, this week I REALLY wanted to try to write a really well thought out recount. Last week my teacher showed my hole class Quick writes that were done to a really high standard. They were neat and interesting to listen to, and it made me think, am I doing the BEST, ''I can do,'' or am I just getting it done? So I pushed myself to try follow the success criteria as much as possible. I hope that you enjoy, and if you have any feedback I would love to hear it.

Out of nowhere, we all jumped out and screamed surprise! You might have been thinking that me and my friends, had thrown a surprise birthday , or a welcome home party? Well if you did, you guessed wrong. It was a going away party. For my friend Mia. Mia had no idea that all  of her friends were there. She thought she was just coming for a play. Really we were all saying goodbye...

I wanted to wish Mia on her way, but how would I invite everyone to my house without Mia noticing ? My friend and I thought up a canning plan. Ella said,''why don't you try and distract her, while I give out the invites? '' Getting the finer details right would be crucial! For instance, the cake! Thinking of Mia, I thought that we could make a beach themed cake,-JANDALS, I said to my mum! We looked up a recipe, and followed it.  The last thing we needed to do was sort out  the snacks. What we wanted for snacks was, Chips, Chocolate, Drinks, Ice blocks and last but definitely not least (in my mums eyes, ...Fruit!) When the next day arrived , mum and I got all the food ready for the party; it was time...

All of us hid behind a couch or a chair, and nervously waited for Mia to arrive. Some one could hear them coming  and said ,  ''Ready ? Be  quite. Can you hear them?  1, 2, 3 I whispered... SURPRISE!!! Everyone was so happy, and Mia was also excited and grateful for all of the warming smiles and hugs. Over all I remember being so happy to send Mia away knowing that we all really care about her!

To day I was biking to school in the rain and I saw these broken surfboards. Just sitting there! I love reusing stuff, and so as soon, as I got to school I asked a teacher if she could drive me there to pick them up. Now you might be thinking, Why does she want broken surfboards? Well I thought, maybe, we could paint them or make them into a sign. You see, at my school surfing is very popular, because the school is just across the road from the beach, and so they would fit right in. Here is one of my Ideas I am thinking of...

My Olympic booklet so Far

Its the first week of school, and we've already jumped into it. Our term topic is about going for gold. You might be wondering why its called going for gold, but to make it more confusing, it means lots of different things.  The first thing is, our school environment goal.  We would like to get green gold because that means we are doing the best job WE can do for the environment, at our school. The second meaning is the olympics. In my class we have a booklet that has lots of questions and little activities, that we need  to complete before week 3. Now there's lots more, but i'm going to leave them for another time.  I'll leave some Questions that you can answer yourself, and some pictures
of my booklet so far.

Question number 1: When was the last time the olympics was held in japan?

Question number 2: What is the official hymn of the olympics?

Question number 3: what individual has won the most Olympic medals?

The End to Our 3 Way Focus

You might be wondering what the 3 way focus even is, but you'll soon find out. For our inquiry, we focused on Little Blue penguins, or kororā) Now the name 3 Way Focus, was because there were 3 options you could choose from. Making a diorama, picture book or the option that we choose, a life sized drawing of a species of penguin.  Me and ella, (my friend), wanted to have a challenge. So we asked my teacher, Koka Rozie), if we could make our pinguin 3d, AND make it out of rubbish. Because our teacher is so open minded, she let us. Now, the penguin Ella and I got was... the Adelie penguin.

The materials we used were, chip pacigas, news paper, hot glue, garden weed coverer, bottle caps, paint, and tap.  There will be a photo  of it underneath.

My Venn Diagram

Hello, this week my teacher wanted us to read and compare two texts. The first text was more harder and more complicated then the second one, but they still had things in common.  The texts were about Matariki. Do  you celebrate Matariki? At school the teachers try to incorporate it as much as possible.  I enjoyed comparing two texts. My learning intention was, compare information within & between texts.  Now I will show you my Venn diagram!

Math Strand

Kia ora whanau. So yesterday, Koka Ngaire asked us to fill in this sheet about Volume, Capacity, Length, Weight, and Predictions. We needed to fill this out for our report, so then Koka Ngaire could judge our answers - if we were good enough. I enjoyed doing this because this gave me a chance to relearned what we had done that term. I have attached a photo of what I did, so you can see what I did. Hope you enjoy!

The Toy Cat

Hello, so last week we had to write a retell  a story about a firefighter that saved a Kitten, but the weird this is, it was real!!!

To edit we used ARMS, ARMS is, add, remove, move and substructure. I found this strategy really easy to use.

“We have a fire!!!”As my weighted boots traveled closer to the door, my heart skipped a beat. Hazy smoke covered the whole room, which made my breathing harder than an asthma attack!Ceiling boards came down. Installation surrounded the floor ,and the walls blackened ! Then as I turn my light on ,I search for signs of life in the room, but in the corner of the bem I spot a very small figure that looks like a toy cat…

As soon as I get closer, it hits me. The small figure is a little kitten! I pick it up and rush outside to try to revive the small cat. Straight after I get out the door, I grab a gas tank, plus a small breathing mask…

Once I have gathered all of the equipment I lay the cat on the ground, to attach the breathing mask to the kitten's mouth. While the oxygen was trailing from the tank to the kitten, I poured some cold water onto its fur to cool it down and to try get some of the blackened ash that covered i,t off. This was so close to a miracle, because out of know where this little furry paw comes to greet me. A wave of relief also comes to greet me, and this time I put the once toy cat now living creacher in my arms.

Green Sea Turtles Report

Did you know that green sea turtles are one of the largest turtles in the world? Today I'm going to tell you all of the facts I know, and researched about.

Green sea turtles weigh about 65-130kgs. I have to say, that is a big diferents. In pounds 300-350 which is another difference but this time, compared to the other fact.  Also an adult weighs about 160 kgs so I guess it just difers.

The green sea turtles are mostly found in Costa Rica, and Australia. These creatures are also found in 80 different countries, and almost all of these  are on the warmer sorts of things. They do live under water , but still have to come up for air every 5 hours.

Adult sea turtles like to eat seagrass and algae. That's why their shall is green, and also why they’re called Green Sea Turtles. Did you know that all adults are herbivores, because it makes it easier to chew and swallow.

Well my last little fact is, that Green sea turtles are my favorite sea creature. Overall I learnt that turtles like the heat, they weigh about 160 kgs and last but definitely not least they’re herbivores.

The new Sewing club!

So two days ago Koka Ngaire started this sewing group for LTP, (learning through play.) Room 1,(my class), room 2, room 3 and room 4 are the classes involved in LTP. Room 1 is Koka Ngaire's room, and she does sewing and Knitting. Room 2 is Koka Rozies, and she is letting us create all of these different creations with harakeke (flacks.) Now last, but not lest  Koka Leahs, and Koka Brodies group . They take a group out to play games and do P.E.

I LOVE Koka Ngaires group because you can make whatever you want, and how ever you want.  Also the vibe is just so nice to be around. Everyone has really kind and helpful feedback and so that made it really easy to work.  I made a school skirt with pleats, but I haven't finished yet.  I'm so excited to finish it and show it to my friends.

How to be Cybersmart

So me and my friend Ella, had to make a poster on how to be cybersmart on our chromebooks.  I was ecstatic about making a poster and doing it with Ella. Me and Ella used bit mojoes to inastraight all of our points. I think the most difercilte part about this was trying to pick which thing we would right about. Because, I thought we should only have 3 main topics.  So I hope you enjoy our poster!!!

Easter!!!

On Thursday late at night, my cousin Hana came from Wellington. She hadn't been to Gisborne since she was like 7, and now shes 18. It was really cool of her to come to Gizzy at Easter because my mum had gone away, so it was just me my dad and my brother, Isaac. I think if Hana hadn't come we would have driven each other encane. I'm not kidding

The next morning we all got up early and went to Wikani beach to go for a surf, but the waves were so small I could only have a short ride and me and hana watch the "pros "out the back AKA my (brother and my dad.) I still had a blast though. Saturday was also great the first thing we did was make waffles and they were extra good today for some reason... I think because it was Easter!!!  In the afternoon  Hana wanted to go check out the new vegan store, so that's what we did and I got a HOT!!! chocolate. Oh and did I mechen before it was extremely HOT. I have to say after that experience I still have to go with cow milk thanks.

On sunday we all opened our easter eggs and ate some big bites of HEAVEN.  But after church we all went to the beach and there were massive waves so we all played chicken, chicken is when a JINORMAS wave comes and you have to stay still. Ps you get smashed in this game.  We had a blast with my cousin and I'm so glad I got to spend time with her After all its been a while

Purako Day!!!

Hello yesterday we as a school had a day off leaning and a day in the gardens. I was super excited for this day. When I first found out I was at enviro group, (which is basically a group that works in the gardens.) Koka jodie said that each class would have the day to work or improve their airer. My class airer is the class gardens aka the vegetable garden.  Koka Ngaire said that we were going to dige up the kumara and make sines that would point to the other class's airers. Like the orchard, compost, bee hives, shade house and the medicine garden.

I came to school at 12.30 because I was at inter school cricket so I didn't have the best of ideas on what to do. So I got to business. I asked Ella Rio and Charlotte A if I could be in there group to paint and design the medicine sign. They were very nice and let me in their group. We started to paint and I was so grateful I could be doing it.

So I was so happy that could be stuck in a the work and do my part in the class garden. I loved painting and designing the sign with my friends. Hopefully me and my school have done enough to get green gold for our school:/

Going to Cooks Cove

Mum dad I'm going to be late for the cooks cove walk! Please please can I get a lift in the car i'm going to be late. No my mum said, bike. When I got to school I could feel and HEAR my heart betting. THUMP Thump thump... But guess what my clock was an hour early and I was half an hour early for the walk. I was so mad at myself. The bell finally went for as to go.  We were going to go on the walk so we could practise for year six 6.  Then jumped in the car and drove to Tolaga Bay. And yes this was on Thursday of the earthquake.

When we got there I felt a little car sick but once we started walking and smelling the natcher I was good to go.  The first hill we climbed was very steep and I was getting extremely hot.  Luckily Koka Ngaire said that we  could stop to look at the beacon of light. I was happy to be doing this walk . When we got to the bottom of the hill we ate and started to go back up. Then Finns mum saw morepork. I'll put a photo of it at the end.

So over all I really enjoyed the walk and it was great practise for  year 6 camp next week, yay. I recommended the walk  but definitely try to do it on a cloudy day so you don't get heat stroke. My walking  group was Rori and Hunter, Stefan was our Adult and he was funny and we all just talked and walked.  The walk was a good exercise I got to see the Hole in a wall and Cooks Cove our destination.

The first weeks of being a year 6!!!

Hello first term back and it's already busy. Today we are going to the Marie Te Poho o Rawiri and on wednesday we're going to swimming sports. I've been doing lots of art and we got a NEW teacher!!! Her name is Pip, but we call her Koka Pip.  And guess what i'm a year six so I get to go surfing!!! Walking, we've been doing some walks for YEAR 6 CAMP. We also walked up the mountain because it's part of our pepeha. It's called Maungaroa because its very long.

Swimming sports. Last year I didn't like swimming sports because its very stressful and demanding but this year I will try to do my best but still have fun tomorrow. You might be asking yourself how could swimming sports be demanding. Well in my year there are lots of competitive girls,  and they know how to swim. But i will still do MY best.

Now i'm  a year six I get to go surfing on fridays and so far i'm loving it.  And it's just one of the reasons I love my school. Tell me what primary school lets kids go surf for fun, its so cool. I love to learning to surf and learning to do cool tricks.  We go to Makarora, Midway, Waikanae and Wainui beach.

Our new teacher is very nice and she  listening to my class's ideas and she tries to include them. Koka Pip also use to be a student at wbs 25 years ago so she still knows her way around here.  She also grew up here. And she loves to surf. Maybe next time she can come surfing with me and the year six's.
